Mobile Workplace + Software

Our starter pack contains the complete solution of everyday laboratory work. Galilei tablet PC with the pre-installed Galilei ALPIN software ensures mobility and independence. Irrespective of whether you are in the office, laboratory or in a meeting, all research-relevant information is always at your hands.

The mobile GCRS workplace consists of a tablet PC including animal administration and screening software, a thermo-transfer printer and a transponder / barcode reader. The tablet PC, printer and reader communicate by wire-less connection.

Ready-to-use

The Galilei ALPIN software is installed on the mobile workplace and is tested prior to delivery to the customer. The delivery includes a demo database, an empty database and numerous flash demos.

Flexible - mobile and stationary use

The mobile workplace can be used by the animal keeper or the scientist in open and confined animal husbandry like a tablet PC or it can be used at the stationary changeover station and/or as a normal office computer. If the cage card printer has been installed in the vicinity of the changeover station, an ideal workplace is created for work processes, such as mating, litter recording, weaning, et cetera. Fitted with a powerful battery pack, the mobile workplace can be operated for up to nine hours without having to be connected up to a power supply system. A screen with background illumination ensures that texts and images can be read well even with strong top lighting or in bright sunlight.

A large number of interfaces

The mobile workplace has been fitted with a network adapter for wireless and wire connection to a network. By means of the integrated Bluetooth interface barcode readers as well as RFID readers, for example, can be connected without any problem. In addition, two USB interfaces and a PCMCIA slot have been provided for the connection of measuring instruments or other devices.

Complete functionality for the user

The mobile workplace has been fitted with all software functions of Galilei ALPIN, which means that all processes can be handled. If at a later point in time a multi-user system is to be implemented, the database of the mobile workplace can simply be copied into a server environment. For this reason, the mobile workplace is also ideal as a prototyping system to setup systems planned for a later point in time.

Excellent functions are provided by the digital patient file, for example, which renders available the status and the development of all relevant data to scientists and animal keepers. By means of the genealogy browser, for example, the genealogical trees of a whole line can be examined for their transmission of phenotypes.

Optional feature - database synchronisation

The mobile workplace can be used as a self-sufficient system for animal cages which have not been fitted with network connections. In order to make the data collected available outside of the cages in a multi-user environment, for example, these data can be synchronised with other ALPIN databases. In addition, job orders, for example, which have been created outside of the animal cages, can be transferred to the mobile workplace.

Automatic software updates

In order to permit the installation of new program versions on the mobile workplace without any problems, all mobile workplaces have been equipped with automatic update routines. As soon as an Internet connection has been established to the Galilei update server, the user can initiate the download of updates, which are installed after a few touches of a button.
