Medical Reports

This module permits case-related, study group-related or license-related automatic preparation, printing and saving of medical reports and other documents by means of MS-Word or other Microsoft objects. In the process, the information saved in the GCRS database is imported. In an expansion stage, the documents will be prepared, printed and saved to an archiving system, such as a Jukebox. In this case, references to the documents only will be saved in the database.

For the preparation of the documents, so-called templates have to be set up by means of MS-Word and instructions have to be generated defining how the templates interact with the GCRS form editor. The templates, i.e. MS-Word documents as a rule, contain placeholders which are replaced by the preparation of the document, by the case information, such as animal data, diagnoses, service data and medical records. The replacement mechanism also permits placeholders to be replaced by objects, such as findings set up by MS-Word, or by documents which in turn have been generated by means of templates.

The data in the form editor contain SQL instructions as to how a placeholder defined in the template is to be replaced by the contents of the GCRS database. By means of the form editor, documents can be copied to other documents, can be modified and tested. The form editor also permits import and export of generated documents from one GCRS system into another. After generation of the document within the framework of case management, the document can be edited at will by entering free texts, for example, or adding general and/or MS-Word specific templates. Subsequently the document is saved in the database. During the saving process, other important information, such as the name of the initiating researcher, the name of a secretary, the date of dictation, the date of creation and dispatch of the document, is saved as well. Later these data can be evaluated by means of a query tool like all the other field. The documents can be printed individually or by means of an internal print spooler. The print spooler is recommended for very complex documents.
